ProMedica Case Study Read Me

"Working with Windows NT Performance Data," is a SHARE (Spring 2002) presentation by Paul Jaffray from ProMedica.

You may find especially interesting the script Paul developed to "pull" NTSMF .smf collection files from approximately 100 servers nightly, instead of using the built-in "push" technology that the product contains. The sample VB script processes a list of server folder names where NTSMF is installed. The server folder names are contained in a text file in the following form:

\\SERVER01\C$
\\SERVER02\C$
\\SERVER03\C$

The following line in the script references this server folder name file:

srvsource = "C:\Automation\Scripts\serverlist.txt"

The script also automatically posts an e-mail message if any of the data files it expects to find are missing.

To execute the sample script, create a server folder names file for your installation, make the changes to customize the script for your environment, and remove the .txt extension from the script file.
