Demand Technology Software releases version 1.2 of the SDK for building a SQL Server-based PDB.

Naples, Fla. (08/2/2005) — Demand Technology Software announced the immediate availability of version 1.2 of the Software Development Kit (SDK) for building and maintaining a Microsoft SQL Server-based Performance Database (PDB). The latest version of the SDK features improved charting capabilities and support for Registry Inventory change records.

The NTSMDPDB SDK is available free of charge to all current Performance SeNTry/NTSMF customers.

The version 1.2 enhancement include:

A new MachinesInventory Table that stores information from standard Type 10 configuration (Registry Inventory fields) records. Inventory data from multiple machines is maintained in a single MachinesInventory table, which is indexed by Machine name, the full registry key, and a short key (Registry field name) to enhance retrieval on queries. Current inventory information is stored in the table at generation number 0. Per machine, a changed data value at the field level automatically ages the information previously stored in the MachineInventory Table. A Registry parameter determines the total number of historical changed records kept in the PDB.

The version 1.2 ChartBuilder sample web application now automatically generates box-and-whisker plots when you select a single, uninstanced counter and a reporting interval that is 8 hours or longer. The box-and-whisker plots are automatically generated for each hour in the reporting period. The upper and lower box borders represent the 25th and 75th percentiles of the underlying distribution. The 50th percentile (or median) of the hourly distribution is represented by a dashed line across the interior of the box. The arithmetic mean (or average) is shown as a solid line through the box. The upper and lower whiskers of the plot extend to the 90th and 10th percentiles of the distribution. Minimum, maximum, and other outlying points are also plotted. A ToolTip for each plot reports the average, median, 25th and 75th percentile values.

The box plot feature is illustrated in this hourly report on % Total Processor Time from the System Object.

To install and run the NTSMFPDB SDK requires the following run-time environment:

•	Performance SeNTry collection service version 2.4.7.1, or higher
•	.NET Framework version 1.1 (runtime version is included)
•	Internet Information Server version 5.0, or higher to run the optional ASP.NET applications
•	Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (Enterprise Edition preferred). Note: either a local or remote copy of SQL Server can be accessed.

The NTSMFPDB™ toolkit includes source code and ready-to-run, compiled versions of programs that can be used to load NTSMF data collection files into a SQL Server database for reporting. For more details, refer to the original SDK 1.0 announcement.
