Version 2.4.10 of NTSMF.

Wednesday, March 29, 2006.

We are pleased to announce that version 2.4.10 of NTSMF™ is currently available. All customers currently on regularly scheduled maintenance plans may request shipment of the new version immediately. Customers who have acquired an earlier version of version 2.4 within the last year may also upgrade to the new version 2.4.10 collection service free of charge.

Version 2.4.10 incorporates two important Hot Fixes that were previously available only in limited distribution. One Hot Fix addresses a problem where the collection agent terminates during initialization when it encountered a corrupted perfc009.dat file. This problem can occur on Windows XP and Server 2003 after maintenance at the Service Pack 2 (SP2) is applied and appears to be associated with changes to the wmiaprpl.dll Performance Library.

The second Hot Fix closes a previously open problem that would cause the collection agent to fail when the Data Execution Protection (DEP) function is turned on. DEP is turned on by default in Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Windows Server 2003 after maintenance at the Service Pack 1 (SP1) level is applied. Previously, a work-around was available that allowed the exclusion of the collection service from DEP. Note that this maintenance adds dmperfss.sdb to the list of files required to run the collection agent. dmperfss.sdb is necessary to support DEP.

See the complete list of the fixes and enhancements integrated into version 2.4.10 for more details.

Enhancements available in version 2.4.10 include support for new performance data from SQL Server 2005, support for the .NET CLR (Common Language Runtime) Objects, and new filters that apply to both SQL Server 2000 and 2005.
