It has been brought to our attention that there is a problem in certain circumstances where attempting to ‘Uninstall’ or ‘Remove’ the Performance Sentry Collection Service results in an error message of “An error occurred while trying to remove Performance Sentry Collection Service. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove Performance Sentry Collection Service from the Add or Remove Programs list [or Programs and Features list on newer systems]” Choose ‘No’ in this case and read the solution below.
The Problem:
The problem only arises on x64 versions of Windows as a result of installing Performance Sentry Collection Service using the CSSetup.exe (Collection Service Setup) installation executable with the “/S” – silent option. CSSetup.exe is executed ‘under the covers’ in silent mode with the default Performance Sentry setup routine. When the “/S” option is used under x64 architectures, an invalid ‘UninstallString’ is written in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Performance Sentry Collection Service
The Solution:
When attempting to uninstall the Collection Service, instead of selecting ‘Uninstall’ or ‘Remove’ choose ‘Change‘ instead and you will be prompted with a Performance Sentry Collection Service uninstall dialog box. Simply click on ‘Yes’ and the service and all of its related files will be removed from the system.
Contact [email protected] if you have any questions regarding the uninstall process for the Performance Sentry Collection Service.
